leave the lights on

1.
I used to know the moon. We were friends, he & I. We laughed at the world at two o'clock in the morning. We talked of everything & nothing simultaneously. We spoke of the things that we held closest to our chest. But one day, the moon died. The pull it had on me disappeared, along with the light I held dear. I would stargaze without a glow to ground me. Every speck in the sky possessed only half of his radiance. So when the moon died, so did the night. Now, the dark no longer welcomes me. The daylight is not my home. It's so cold, it's so cold, it's so cold. Please leave the lights on.
